Crispy Salt & Pepper Chilli Tofu

Add a chilli kick to this classic vegan and gluten-free dish! 

Salt and pepper tofu

Ingredients

  • 1 block firm tofu
  • Cooking Oil
  • Bunch of green onion (scallion) chopped
  • 1/2 cup potato starch
  • 1 tsp white pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt or adjust to your liking
  • 6 cloves of crushed garlic
  • 2 large red chilli

Instructions

  1. Place tofu block on a plate. Place the second plate one top of the tofu with a heavy object on top of the plate, I generally use a tin can. Apply weight on the tofu for around 20 minutes to release the water from the tofu
  2. Cut the tofu in cubes of 1.5cm and pat dry
  3. Combine cornstarch, salt and pepper together and coat the cubed tofu
  4. Heat oil in pan and slowly fry the tofu blocks until crispy and slightly browned
  5. Remove extra oil, only leave around 2 tablespoon of oil in pan, fry garlic, scallion and chilli pepper until aromatic
  6. Return the tofu to pan and give it a toss 
  7. Serve on a plate and drizzle with our Chinese Chilli Oil
